EVIDENCE OF THE MATERIAL WORLD 2011 - 2019
Evidence of the Material World is an ongoing series of site-bound drawings. I use hand-made graphite films that I install on a chosen architectural area. The title is a reference to Lucretius’ De Rerum Natura, a poem on the nature of the universe written over 2000 years ago.
Over time, I have understood how texts are sensuous experiences that embrace syntax but also exceed it through substance, color and form.
As much as my work intersects with and borrows from systemic language and text, it also wrestles with language and its limits across the less effable aspects of the material and sensuous world in which we live and die. This ongoing series subscribes to this necessary tension.
